Description

The Vineyards

The vineyards lie at an average altitude of 300 metres and are dry-farmed. The vines are trained on bilateral cordon and face north-west to south-west. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Leonilde vineyard, planted in 1981, while the Alicante Bouschet comes from the slope of the Sobreira de Cima vineyard, planted in 2002.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand-picked and destemmed immediately. Alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 24 and 26 °C. After fermentation, the wine underwent five days of post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in tank. The wine was then transferred to 500-litre barrels and 25-hectolitre foudres, where it aged for 18 months.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby colour with garnet hints. The nose is complex and elegant, with notes of blackberry and blackcurrant, spice, cedar and a light touch of vanilla from the time in wood. On the palate it is full-bodied, with fine tannins and balanced acidity that lifts the freshness. Black fruit remains to the fore, enriched by hints of dark chocolate and spice. Long ageing in wood and bottle brings a silky texture and a long finish with notes of coffee and toasted oak.
